Directly Identifiable Information - Definition

Digital advertising is the land of acronyms and technical terms. Our glossary can help you make sense of it all with definitions of the most common terminology.

What is Directly Identifiable Information?

An identifier that links or is intended to link to a person’s directly identifiable offline identity. Examples include a full name, Social Security number, driver’s license number, bank account number, passport number, or email address. These identifiers are crucial for recognizing and verifying an individual's identity, whether for legal, financial, or administrative purposes. Such information, also known as Personally Identifiable Information (PII), is sensitive and can be used to uniquely identify an individual, which makes it a target for privacy regulations and security measures to protect against unauthorized access and identity theft.
